Happy New Year family and friends! Chloe is stepping into the New Year. Our baby girl is on the move, climbing steps, and making steps. Her longest walk yet is around 11steps. To say the least, 2014 is off and running! The Chicago Bears enjoyed seeing the Green Bay Packers lose, and we are hoping that Chris Paul will return to the Clippers line soon. That’s enough for my ESPN moment… now to the good stuff.
2014 is off and running, and often times we hope as the New Year comes around that we will see positive changes in our lives, habits, and the list goes on. I believe that our change rises and falls on the Word of God and what you believe. This past Sunday we kicked off our first sermon series of the year “Believe”. This is based from Matthew 16:13-19, and you can find the sermon notes here (click for sermon notes). Three major movements we will focus on: 1) The Believer’s Confession (say it), 2) The Believers Vision (see it), and 3) The Believer’s Authority (live it). Focus is this: If you change what you believe, and you will change how you live.” #Say it, See it, Live it”
Year of Release:
As DUCC starts off a fresh year, the Lord spoke to us through Ephesians 3:20 that this will be a year of Release. A year where we will see more DUCC’s God given potential released as a church and as a people. This means greater impact on our city, stronger discipleship and spiritual development , and ultimately people released to walk in what God has created them for. God has invested extraordinary potential in us and we have a choice: will we deprive the world or bless the world with what God has invested in us.
Keeping my edge:
Each year I have a personal focus grounded in scripture that serves as a guide for me to understand interpret what God is doing, speaking, and calling forth in my life, family, and ministry. As I prayed, journaled, and consulted with those close to me, Philippians 3:8-14 has once again emerged. Specifically Verse 12-14 says
“12Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Out of that the Lord challenged me to keep pursuing Him relentlessly. There was a deep and hard conviction that somewhere over the past few years that I had a sense of “arrival” in my personal relationship with the Lord. If I could make a Rocky parallel, it’s time for me to get the “Eye of the Tiger” back. After Rocky lost to Mr. T, in Rocky III, his friend confronted him and said that he lost his “edge” aka the “Eye of the Tiger”. (click here for Rocky clip) This means that I will going through a season of spiritual boot camp, increasing my prayer time, study of the word, and overall feeding my Spirit and growing closer to Christ. To sum it up: Faith, Focus, Favor, and Freedom!
What’s your focus this year? What is the Lord speaking to you for this upcoming year?
