Happy Monday family & friends…
I hope each of you are doing well, and enjoying the mercies of God that are new every morning! As June comes to an end, I am amazed with how fast it seems time is going by, and also how much I have had an opportunity to experience in the 1st half of 2014. This past weekend was a phenomenal one, so I am excited to share with you my reflections.
Often times with the work in ministry and being around spiritual family, I am reminded of how blessed I am to have the natural family in my life that doubles as spiritual family. This past week Cherelle & I had our little cousins AJ & Morgan with us, and it was joy to have them hanging out with us. They are 11 & 10 yrs old, and I think Chloe benefited the most from them! Their parents, Shaunte & Raymond are not only our cousins, but also our friends, and we are grateful to have them in our life!
DU Date Night
This past Friday we had our annual Date Night @ DUCC for our married couples. This is a time to celebrate and enrich marriages within our church and community. This past Friday we had 14 couples that came to invest in their marriage. We also had special guests, Pastors Shawn & Danell Perkins from Grace Covenant Chantilly. We had an awesome time! Wisdom nugget: The reason why we should love our spouses is because Christ loved us, not because of how they look or what they can offer!
Saturday morning we had our monthly leadership meeting at the church. This time is set aside for me to invest into the leaders of our church, and make plans to continue to move forward as a church with the mission God has given us. We did a prayer and reflection exercise that gave opportunity for people to share what they believe the Lord is showing them about DUCC, and this time was very encouraging. To say the least not only do I believe that God has big plans for DUCC, but those that are working with me do too. As a church we have an opportunity to truly impact the city with the gospel, and help many people be restored in their relationship with Christ, and help others accept their calling and purpose in Christ.
This Sunday was a monumental occasion for DUCC as a church and for me as a pastor. We licensed our first ministers at the church, and this was our first “installation” service & I am humbled by God to have the opportunity to empower people to walk in their calling, and the two brothers we installed as ministers are going to make a huge impact for the Kingdom of God and our church. Roy Mcdonald & Marcus Anderson have been walking with me for last 7+ years, and I am grateful to see what the Lord has done in their lives and ministries! Big shout out to their wives for being wonderful additions to their lives and helping these men hear and obey the voice of God. As Pastor AJ & I prayed and discerned what was the Lord’s will for DUCC, over a year ago those two couples were revealed as the jewels that our congregation needed in this upcoming season. So thanks to all who played a part!
Be All You Can Be
I preached from Philippians 2:19-22 and 2Timothy 2:1-4 on the topic: Be All You Can Be. This week we took a special look at the Apostle Paul’s protégé Timothy. We saw how God used a regular man to take on one of the greatest biblical legacies and how God has something great for us to. Two major characteristics about Timothy to be noted are: 1) He was Sincere, and 2) He was Solid. God’s mission was his priority not his own agenda, and also timothy had proven character. Those who accomplish great things are not always the most skillful or charismatic, they are often people that possess such intangible values as Sincerity & Solidarity. God has something great for you to do, and I want to encourage you to BE ALL YOU CAN BE in God’s army!
Blessings as you allow the will of the Lord to be activated in your life!
