Happy Monday family and friends. I hope each of you are doing well, and enjoying the start of another week, which means we have another opportunity to exalt the name of Jesus over everything! This past weekend was one to remember as I celebrated my birthday. Well I didn’t celebrate it but everyone around me did it for me. I am blessed with some awesome people in my life! Hope you enjoy these Monday Moments.
My birthday was Friday, which also fell on the same day as DuDinner (an intentional fellowship meal at DUCC with table topics) and midnight prayer. The church surprised me at the dinner portion where the topic was “Heroic Leadership”. Those in attendance took the opportunity to shower me with words of affirmation, encouragement and prayer. I had no idea that the entire dinner was going to be about me, but when my parents came into the church, I knew something was up!
One of the most common comments that people made about was about character, and integrity. I found this to be one of the greatest reflections of those around me. It is my heart’s desire to model the character of Christ, and the fact those that are follow me as I follow Christ attest not to my preaching skill, vision casting, and etc, but to my character it is an encouragement to continue to surrender to the Lord and allow Him to make me the man I need to be.
The Birthday Gifts:
Now, this birthday was full of surprises when it came to gifts. My lovely wife hit me with a 3 piece. 1) Jordans- She surprised me with a new pair of shoes (Retro 14’s) as my new DUCC shoes! Shout to some of my Jordan heads that gave me the socks and shorts to go with it! 2) Date at the National Harbor in Maryland. We went out and it was a great day trip for the two of us.
3) New Vehicle: For those of you who know me well, also know who “Pearl” is. “Pearl” is my 2000 Expedition with a ton of miles, that served as the DuRaG bus for years, and is getting back in age, and up in miles. “Pearl” has had several issues over the past year, and we have been in prayer and shopping for a new vehicle. I thought I was going to have to wait a little longer, but thanks to my wife and her amazing ability to budget, I want to introduce you all to “Onyx” our new Ford Flex! Cherelle set an appointment for me to test drive and purchase our new vehicle as a part of our date on Saturday. This vehicle is what we both wanted, in our prayed for price range, and I had the opportunity to drive it back to Harrisonburg from NOVA. Bless the LORD! Some of you all knew the struggle… and thanks to many of you who have joined into the celebration with us!
LIFE: Praise is what I do
This past Sunday marked the ending of our sermon and testimony series of LIFE. Over the past two months we have had different members of the congregation share their life scripture, and those scriptures have been the sermon topics as well. This has been a blessed series, and it has been a joy hearing the many ways the Lord has communicated His faithfulness, and love to the people in our church. So yesterday we covered Psalm 34, and Chris Jones shared his testimony. In Psalm 34 David boldly praises God for His faithfulness and deliverance from his all his troubles. David says that “He will bless the Lord at all times…” and in order for David to do that he made a commitment to God’s Word, God’s Worship, and God’s Way. Family I encourage you to 1) read Psalm 34, and 2) Praise God for all He has done, and who He is. Praise invites God into our lives, and invites others into God’s presence. God inhabits the praises of His people. If you want your perspective to change “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all things, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for your life.” (1Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Love you all and thanks for the many birthday wishes, and continual prayer!
