Happy Monday family and friends! I hope that you all are doing well and enjoying God’s love! Had an awesome weekend, and I am excited to share.
This weekend we celebrated my former head coach 20th year at Bridgewater. It was great to see so many old teammates and friends. See those guys was really refreshing. We shared fun & painful memories of playing this wonderful game of football. I don’t think I have hung out that long on Bridgewater’s campus since I was working there. All of the former players took a big picture on the field and formed a tunnel for the current team to come out onto the field. It has been 10years since I played college football, time is flying by, but you better believe that we all think that we could still play a little bit. I must admit that my adrenaline started pumping when I stepped on the field. Do I still have some football in the tank??? I guess we will never know now, lol. I will say this, I was sore from just going to the game, I am not as tough as I use to be. By the way Bridgewater did win the game, and we had a great post game speech fro Coach Clark. I am glad to be a part of the Bridgewater Football Legacy.
So Thursday morning when I woke up,I wasn’t feeling too hot. I had to lay back down, and I was in the bed ALL DAY. Cherelle & Chloe took good care of me, and then late afternoon Cherelle started feeling sick. So Chloe was the last one left standing. Cherelle & I were both very sick with something like the stomach flu, but Chloe did an excellent job while we were sick. It was as if she knew we weren’t feeling well b/c she didn’t cry or fuss the whole day, sat on my shoulder and head while I was laying in the bed, and checked on “Mommy” quite often when she was in the bed. Good news is Cherelle & I were both 100% on Friday. We hadn’t both been sick like that before.
This weekend we had our first lock-in for the youth at the church. This is an iconic moment for us as a church considering we use to travel to do lock-ins for other churches as a campus ministry. They had some time for worship, prayer stations, fun & games, food, and some teaching. Big shout out to Gianne and her team for their ministry to the youth at our church.
This is not a Pity Party:
For the last month we have been in Luke 23 in our sermon series Roadside Assistance. This week we looked at Luke 23:32-47, and it was a powerful sermon & service. As Jesus was hanging on the Cross He taught us how the Gospel Relieves us of the burden of sin, Reaches us no matter where we are, and Reveals His identity even in dark times. Jesus’s first words from the cross “Forgive them” relieves all of creation from the pain and penalty of sin. His words reminds us that it wasn’t nails that kept Him on the cross, it was His love for us that kept Him there. Also we see that the Gospel reaches us just as Jesus’s love and care reached the criminal on the cross as they both were dying. Lastly the Gospel Reveals. When Jesus died their was an unexplainable eclipse and a huge earthquake that shows that all of creation was connected to the words and life of Jesus.
Every Nation Churches:
Yesterday DUCC was officially recognized as an Every Nation Church! Every Nation is the network of churches that we are connected to for accountability, encouragement, and covering. To some this may not be a big deal, but we recognize you can only go as far as the one’s leading you. We find our spiritual family in this network that helps us stay connected with churches and nations around the world. Every Nation exists to plant Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, socially responsible churches and campus ministries in every nation.
Pastor David Houston visited us yesterday from Nashville, and consulted us on how to help DUCC continue to grow as a healthy church. We had a long day of ministry from 8am-10:30pm, but it was worth every minute of it. Special shout out to Ps. David for his wisdom and care for our church. Also I want to say I am excited about where we are going as a church, and there are opportunities lining up that I can’t wait to share with you all. DUCC is growing, and we are hoping to make an even greater impact on the city of Harrisonburg and the surrounding area. Pray for us as we continue to impact this city and the world with quality Christ-centered ministry.
In the Master’s will,
