Happy Monday family! Hope each of you are doing well! Cherelle, Chloe & I just finished family dance time. We call it “worship arts” here at the Johnson home. I am often reminded of how blessed I am to have a loving wife and beautiful daughter. Check out this week’s Monday Moments.
I want to give a very special shout out to Christopher B. Jones who is the newest member to Harrisonburg City Council. Chris Jones felt a conviction and calling from the Lord to run for City Council as an opportunity to be the light of Christ during our “Take the City” Campaign. I am proud of and excited for he and his family. I believe having godly men and women in our local and national government is much needed.
Also special shout out to Brent Holsinger for being voted on to our local school board in Harrisonburg. I remember working with Brent at the Boys and Girls Club about 5 years ago, and I am excited for the many elementary & middle school students’ he has impacted and the many children that will be impacted by his effort on the school board.
The Power of Prayer
This past Friday we had our monthly prayer and worship service at DUCC. I am always excited about the intentional time we have to go to the Lord in prayer as a corporate body. We had our largest amount of people for a midnight prayer ever this past week. We had quite a few college students that were in attendance, and I believe the Lord is about to do something amazing on the college campus so we are standing in prayer with and for them. Reflecting on our time of prayer I am reminded that Repentance + Reverence in prayer= Breakthrough. The Lord is calling to a greater place of reverence and repentance that brings us closer to Him.
There is power in prayer and its not just in the church gathering but as Jesus said, wherever there are two or three gathered in His name He will be in the midst. This past weekend I had some very powerful prayer times with some brothers in the Lord on 3 different occasions. I want to encourage you to identify those people in your lives that will stand with you in prayer. Special shout out to Carl Stauffer, Edwin, and AJ for standing in my corner keeping me encouraged and prayed up this past weekend.
Heartburn: Walking with Jesus
This past Sunday we closed out our series Roadside Assistance. Succinctly we closed out a mini series in the Gospel according to Luke. What I have found throughout this series is that many of us have a desire to be “on fire for Jesus”, but so many times it is much easier said than done. The disciples in Luke 24 were walking along the road “talking about Jesus” and the scripture says that He drew near. They went from talking about Jesus to talking with Jesus all along their journey. I believe that the first step to walking with Jesus is talking about Jesus. It’s not about how much you know, its about how much you care first. The Lord wants your heart more than anything else. What you talk about most is a reflection of your heart. As they were talking about and to Jesus, another shift happens to where Jesus begins to teach them that the entire Bible is about Him (Luke 24:25). In order for your heart to be set a blaze for Jesus, you must learn about Jesus. Giving Christ your heart is one step, but then He gives us the capacity to learn more about Him. Learning about Jesus comes from spending time with Jesus. Today and this week can you make an extra effort to 1) Talk about Jesus, and 2) Learn about Jesus? I believe that the Lord will draw near to you and you will go from talking about Jesus to talking to Jesus, and learning more about Jesus. It is at this point that your testimony will be same as the disciples in Luke 24:32 “Did not our hearts burn within us while HE talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” #talkaboutJesus, #learnaboutJesus.
In the Master’s will,
