Good day family and friends, I hope each of you are doing well, and that your year is getting off to a good start. This has been a wonderful week and weekend for my family and I and the DUCC family. Hope you enjoy this week’s Monday Moments.
Week of Prayer & Fasting:
This week was a week of praying and fasting for DUCC as well as our Every Nation Church family. We took this week as an opportunity to consecrate ourselves before the Lord in preparation and expectation for a year of miracles, signs, and wonders. We hosted a NoonDay prayer time at DUCC Monday-Friday of last week, and this time was amazing and powerful. We had quite a few people that were there everyday for a time of devotion, worship, and prayer. This time was so refreshing that we are hoping to have a prayer time like this either once a week or at least once a month. We do believe that prayer changes things.
Cherelle and I took a break from potty training (see pics) to go out on a date this past Saturday night. Great way to officially break a fast! We went to one of the newest restaurants in Dream City (Harrisonburg) by the name of Jimmy Madison. It was pretty good, definitely will be returning there sooner than later. Getting time to be with my bride is always energizing and refreshing. As we chatted and reflected on life, we both recognize that God has poured an extreme amount of grace and favor in our lives. As Chloe is about to turn 2, our church 3, and our marriage 4 years old, we can truly say the past 5 years have been wonderful and we are excited for what’s ahead of us. Thank you Cherelle for loving me and serving the Lord with me.
False Evidence Appearing Real: FEAR
This week we covered our 2nd emotion: FEAR. Fear is one of the most primitive emotions that we have as humans. Good Fear Protects us, and teaches us to reverence God. However Bad Fear Prevents us from peace and teaches us to doubt God. We focused on Bad Fear, and how to detect and deal with that fear. It is estimated that 80% of Christians deal with fear. Whether it is fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of the future, or fear of loneliness, we are dealing with something that God did NOT give us, a spirit of fear. In 2 Timothy 1:6-7 Paul tells his son in ministry Timothy to “stir up the gift of God which is in you… for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear is one of the most paralyzing emotions the enemy can attack us with because it perverts our perspective and paralyzes us in our purpose. It was fear that turned an 11 day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land to a 40year journey full of pain & heartache (Read Numbers 13&14). Your fear will allow you to see the promises of God but keep you from walking in them. Are you tired of seeing your potential but not being able to live up to it? Are you tired of giving up on stuff because you are afraid you will fail? You no longer have to be in this bondage of fear, God desires for us to be strong and courageous. He wants us to possess what is rightfully ours in Him. 40 years after the Children of Israel failed to take possession of the Promised Land because of their fear, God spoke to Joshua and encouraged him with the following words:
“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:5-9 NKJV)
Family I believe as this year gets off to a start that this word is for us, and FEAR has no place in our lives. Therefore instead of allowing FEAR to hinder you, allow your FAITH to propel you to a new level in Christ. We are more than conquerors through Christ who saved us… let’s posses the land!
Our EXPAND campaign is still on the move as we are pressing to raise $20k to renovate our new space for classrooms, restrooms, and new lobby/meeting space. This is pretty exciting to see things coming together so quickly. We encourage you to continue to pray and give towards this vision. Please visit our website: http://www.ducchurch.org
