Happy Monday family and friends! I hope each of you are doing well and enjoying the start of another great week in the Lord. We had our annual Super Bowl party that was an emotional roller coaster as the Seattle Seahawks “threw” the game away with just a few seconds left in the 4th quarter. Outside of that moment we had an excellent time together. We had a lot of new people join us for the party and I Am excited for the other festivities we have going on this month. I am excited as February marks the 3rd Anniversary of Divine Unity Community Church.
Anniversary Service #1
This past Sunday we kicked off our Anniversary month having Pastor Merle Shank as our guest speaker. Pastor Merle is the pastor of Grace Covenant Harrisonburg, and has served as a mentor and friend to me throughout my church planting and pastoring journey. This was his 3rd time ministering for our anniversary service. I appreciate his authenticity and genuine care that he offers me and DUCC. His word yesterday covered the importance of using our money and resources to support the vision of God for our church. His challenge to the congregation and the leaders is to be generous is sowing into the kingdom of God. While people cringe when the subject of money comes up in church or over the pulpit, it is a healthy reminder that we don’t allow money to control us rather we control it. Thank you Pastor Merle & Sue for sharing your hearts with us on this past Sunday.
We are excited to have Ps. Brett Fuller of Grace Covenant Chantilly to minister to us this upcoming Sunday.
The rest this week’s Monday Moment I want to take some time to look back at our Kickoff Service.
February 5, 2012 The Kickoff
Our first Sunday service was epic! It was like a dream come true for me and many others. We didn’t quite know what to expect but we believed that people would have an authentic encounter with God, and that is exactly what happened. While it was our first service as a church it definitely didn’t seem like it. The presence of God filled the room as our worship team sang, as the preached word went forth, and as our dance team ministered. People committed their lives to Christ and some join the church. The only issue we had then was we did not have enough seats! Special thanks to the many people who stood up the entire time. That trend hasn’t slowed down as we have had the opportunity to see many more people get connected to Christ and the church through what God is doing at DUCC. I am not sure if we are “growing fast”, but it is my hope that we are growing right. It is not about how many people show up on a Sunday morning but about how many lives are being transformed by the presence and power of God. It is my hope that remains to please the Lord Jesus. I often go back and look at pictures and see the many smiling faces, and I am reminded that February 5, 2012 marked the start of something great.
As the founder and pastor I want to say thank you to the many mentors and close friends that labor behind the scenes to increase my integrity and enhance my character to reflect Christ more and more that I may walk worthy of the calling that the Lord Jesus has called me to.
I want to say thank you to the many people who believed in the vision that God had birthed in me. To our team of volunteers, your labor and effort is not in vain, lives are being impacted with the Gospel.
To my parents and family who have encouraged and cared for me along this journey, thank you!
I want to say thank you to my wife is the greatest person that I could have along this journey with me. I couldn’t imagine this journey without Cherelle by my side. Her sacrifice, passion, support, and love has served as evidence of God’s presence in so many ways.
I believe the best is yet to come for Divine Unity Community Church because it is not by our own strength and might this movement is happening, but it is by the Spirit of God! The Lord is building His house and we are simply His servants.
Our EXPAND campaign is still on the move as we are pressing to raise $20,000 to renovate our new space for classrooms, restrooms, and new lobby/meeting space. We are currently closing in on $16,000 of our $20,000 goal. We encourage you to continue to pray and give towards this vision. Please visit our website: http://www.ducchurch.org.
